1.5K Swim Course

The 1,500-meter swim is planned for Blue Heron Lake in Raccoon River Park located in West Des Moines. This will be a clockwise, one-lap swim.

40K Bike Course

The 40K bike course starts at transition in Raccoon River Park. Athletes will leave transition and exit the park by making a left-hand turn onto Grand Avenue. Take Grand Avenue to Raccoon River Rd., turn left onto Raccoon River Dr. also known as Highway F90. Athletes will follow Raccoon River Dr. (Hwy F90) road for approximately 10 miles, then make a U-turn just past R Avenue, before returning to transition using both Raccoon River Dr (Hwy F90) and Grand Avenue (this course is a simple out-and-back bike course for the 2010 Age Group event).

10K Run Course

Runners will exit the transition area at Raccoon River Park turning right onto Grand Avenue. Runners will follow Grand Avenue to Fuller Road, where they will make a left-hand turn, running on Fuller to 35th Street. Athletes will turn right onto 35th Street and follow 35th Street to George Mill Civic Parkway, where they will make a left-hand turn. Athletes will run on George Mills Civic Parkway and make a U-turn just before reaching Fuller Road, returning to the finish line by the same route.

Aid Stations & Medical Units

Aid Stations will provide water and Gatorade Endurance Formula at the following locations:

  • Swim Start
  • Transition Run in / Run out
  • Run Course - Mile 1, Mile 2, Mile 3, Mile 4, Mile 5

Medical

West Des Moines’ weather in June can be warm and humid. If you feel dizzy or nauseated during the bike or run, stop and look for the nearest police officer or race official. The Hy-Vee Triathlon will have medical units on the bike and run courses for your safety.
 

Showers On Site

showersThere will be 16 self-contained showers available for athletes to use after the race. The shower area will have electricity and provide hot and cold water. The showers will be located in the parking lot behind the age-group post-race recovery area. Remember to bring your toiletries and a towel as none will be provided.
